Johnson Valley Racing
Dirt, Dreams, and Family Vibes – Ed Morin’s Story

I’ve dreamed about racing since I was a kid. Off-roading was always part of my life, and after years of helping others chase the checkered flag, I knew it was finally time to start something of my own. That’s how Johnson Valley Racing was born—built from the ground up alongside my longtime friend and co-founder Luke Outhyse, and backed by the best support system you could ask for: our family and friends.

Turning our tight-knit crew into an official race team just made sense. There are no better people to surround yourself with than those who’ve had your back forever. We know each other’s strengths, we know how to work together under pressure, and when we raced together for the first time? Total chaos—but man, the satisfaction was unreal.

Being a family-and-friends team shapes everything we do. Everyone plays a role—moral support, race prep, wrenching, race-day logistics, and marketing. These people aren’t just helping out—they’re invested. The trust, the laughs, and the history we all share… you can’t buy that. It’s what makes the tough days easier and the good ones even better.

For us, the off-road community is just that—a family. It’s built on grit, respect, and pushing each other to be better. We try to reflect that in everything we do. Whether it’s fans, other teams, or someone just stopping by the pit, we make it a point to be real, be welcoming, and share the love.

When we say we’re bringing people along for the ride, we mean it. If someone shows an interest in what we’re doing, we invite them out. We want folks to feel like they’re part of our extended crew. We share race clips, behind-the-scenes photos, and anything that captures what it’s really like out here—because not everyone gets to see a race car ripping through the desert in real time.

Most people don’t realize how much time goes into this. Prepping for a race isn’t just a weekend gig—it’s months of work, problem-solving, and commitment. There are breakdowns, late nights, and long hauls. But we make it happen, no matter what. That’s just who we are. And we don’t waste time on the lows—we focus on the highs and keep rolling.

A Competitive Crew Fueled by Fun – Luke Outhyse’s Perspective

For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to race off-road. It wasn’t just a dream—it was a hope that someday, somehow, we’d line up at the starting line with our own car, built by our own hands. In 2024, we made it happen with Johnson Valley Racing, and I can’t think of a better way to do it than with family and friends who’ve been in the dirt with me for over 25 years.

Let’s be real—our crew might be a little crazy, but they’re the only ones crazy enough to put up with our shenanigans. That’s why it works.

Our first race together was King of the Hammers 2024, and it was one of the best and hardest times of my life. Everything we had built, planned, and busted knuckles over came down to that moment. It tested us—and we passed. Barely. But it was worth every second.

We’ve been tearing up the desert together for decades, so racing just made sense. Everyone brings something to the table—mechanics, comms experts, planners, runners, and cooks. Seriously, it’s one hell of a team. The best part? It’s just fun. No egos, no drama—just doing what we love with the people we love.

To us, the off-road community is family. It’s the smell of gas, the sound of engines, and the memories made around the fire pit.

We believe in good sportsmanship, lending a hand, and always keeping things light. If you stop by our pit, you’re welcome—grab a chair, grab a wrench, or just hang out. Hell, slap a sticker on the car and call it a sponsorship. We’re not fancy—we’re real.

We love showing people what race weekends really look like. Sure, we post the car in action—but my favorite pics are the ones of our crew during prep. That’s where the real story is: the laughs, the hustle, the teamwork.

Running a grassroots team isn’t easy. It takes work—serious prep, organization, late nights, and busted knuckles. There’s no glamour in fixing a busted axle at 2 a.m., but you do what you’ve gotta do. No rest for the wicked.

We’ve had our low moments, sure—but they were just temporary setbacks. We push through, we figure it out, and we come back stronger.
